ANTENNA
GAIN:
Gain is an important measure because certain gain figures
are better suited to particular usage environments.
For strictly urban use, a unity gain antenna is ideal.
Because a unity gain antenna sends the maximum signal
above the horizon at a high angle, it is excellent for
areas where there are tall buildings and for mountains
as well.
For people who live in suburban or rural areas, 3 dBd
gain is recommended. The 3dBd gain antenna concentrates
the maximum amount of signal at the horizon while maintaining
a good high-angle signal. If you are a cellular user,
there is not need to buy an antenna stronger than 3
dBd gain as the USA cellular infrastructure is designed
for optimum performance using 3 dBd gain antennas.
DUAL
BAND:
Dual Band is an expression that tells you that the antenna
can handle more than one frequency. There are phones
that work on both GSM900 and GSM 1800, others work on
AMPS and PCS...These phones are called Dual Band Phones.
To be able to use a Dual Band phone on two systems you
need a Dual Band antenna.
ANTENNA RECEPTION:
An External Cellular Antenna drastically increases call
quality by providing a stronger reception which makes
it easier for the phone to interpret the signal resulting
in less dropped calls. Your phone consumes less energy
from the battery when connected to an external antenna
resulting in an increase of talk time.
ANTENNA
TYPES
DIRECTIONAL ANTENNA:
These antennas are ideal to use in very low signal areas. The directional antenna provides a stronger radiation pattern in a specific direction. This antenna must be properly aimed at the cellular tower. You may need to contact your cellular provider to find the closest tower to you. Obstructions such as dense trees, buildings, and hills between where you are mounting the antenna and the cellular tower must be considered.
GLASS MOUNT:
On-Glass antennas are easy to install and does not require
drilling a hole in your vehicle. This type of antenna
should be mounted high up on the glass and not over
defogger wires or on reflective window tint and this
could impede performance.
MAGNETIC MOUNT:
Magnetic mount antennas are portable and may be moved
from vehicle to vehicle. Remember, though, a magnet
mount antenna will adhere only to an iron/steel (OK
through paint) surface.
OMNI-DIRECTIONAL:
This antenna is used to provide a signal over a greater area using a 360-degree radiation pattern.
